Problems That Students Face During Abroad Studying

| 06/07/2017 | 6 Comments

Studying abroad is a good opportunity to grow academically, personally, and professionally while experience once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Many students dream of traveling abroad for studies or simply escape the normal routine in their country including writing essays, going to the same schools, and much more. Most probably think that it’s an easy transition. Of course, it’s a lot of fun, but it won’t be a smooth ride.

When going to a country with a different culture, students have to adjust to their surroundings. Although the experience is not easy, it can be a lot of fun. The best way to overcome this is to know what to expect before going to another country. Here are five main challenges that students face when studying abroad.

  • Homesickness

For most of us, when we embark on a study trip abroad, it’s our first time going somewhere far away from our home. That means being far away from our family and closest friends. Anxiety can set in when you start to feel less confident about taking care of yourself in another new place especially when no one can come over to comfort you when you have a problem. Actually, you start to regret why you made such a decision to study in another country. You feel like there is no one to offer essay writing help which can be overwhelming.

But you can conquer it. You can actually get involved in new clubs or adventures in your new destination. Learn how to make frequent phone calls to friends and family for an ear to listen. Then, don’t forget to bring some photos on your trip. You can also ask your friends or family to send some supportive letters and notes to read along from time to time. This will improve your comfort level when you’re miles away from your most close people, and the notes can be something you can open every time you feel you’re struggling without your dear ones.

  • That feeling of an outsider

The moment you travel to a new place, you will initially feel like an outsider. The first days may be worse, and you are likely to find yourself wondering why everyone is laughing, but you didn’t realize that somebody had told a joke.

Most countries are quite welcoming, but it’s hard to avoid the first feeling especially when you’re trying to adapt to your new surroundings.

But don’t let that get over you. Initially, it will feel like you don’t fit in the group of students you find there, but this will fade away as you adjust to the new environment and find the people around quite friendly and encouraging. The important thing here is not to let yourself get discouraged. With time, you will make friends and this problem will become smaller and smaller.

  • Problems with essay writing

Since there are so many difficulties that students face when in a new learning environment, it’s common to realize a drop in grades during the first year of university. Most of them have high academic expectations and they may find their performance discouraging.

Putting words to paper and having a complete term paper or essay should be relatively simple. But, apparently, it’s hard and even trying to find essay help can make the experience even harder. Regardless of how talented you are, you are likely to experience some trouble. Personal issues, time restraint, and other assignments can get in the way, and this can affect your grades.

But you don’t have to stress yourself out with all these tasks. For those who seek “write my paper” service, you can get help from reputable writing services such as that will help you with your writing problems.

Here you will get the most professional writers with years of experience to write the best essay for you. But always keep an open channel of communication with the writers to track the progress.

  • Overcoming the currency differences

If you have been in a new country, you know that using a new form of currency can be really odd at first. Currency differences may not be an issue if you’re visiting for a few days, but if you plan to stay until the end of the semester or even more, then you will feel the heat.

It’s challenging to imagine how your normal currency translates into the new currency, how to use it, and above all, whether it will be enough to last until the semester is over.

To avoid being in this fix, familiarize yourself with the type of money you’ll be using abroad before leaving. Make sure you are aware of the conversion rate between currencies and also carry enough when you’re out of town. You don’t want to be in a new place and find out you don’t have enough to last until the end of the semester.

  • Language barrier

If you have traveled to a new country, you understand that language barrier can be a major setback. Picture Indian students going to study in countries such as US, UK, Australia, etc. where English is the first language. They are likely to find it difficult to overcome the language barrier. It’s likely that these students will find it hard to speak English fluently and sometimes it will be heard to understand what the natives are saying.

Even if you may have passed TOEFL or IELTS English language tests, you will often find yourself in situations where there is a miscommunication or where you don’t understand what the other people are saying. In fact, you will most likely have those days that you feel that no one actually understands you, which is very discouraging.

But you don’t have to stress yourself out. You can make an effort to familiarize yourself with the local language and cultural norms. Carry along a translation dictionary or install related foreign language apps on your phone. Make friends with the local and ask for some tips on how to interact effectively with strangers without feeling out of place. At the end, you will learn the basics, and if you’re patient enough, you will be fluent in that language.

Now that you’re aware of the common problems you may encounter abroad and how to handle them, you can focus on the important thing –having fun and enjoying your studies abroad. Of course, you will have some bumps along the way, but they will make the experience memorable. Actually, you will have crazy stories to tell friends when you come back home.
